Intended Use

Nissan Canada commissioned me to photograph the unreleased 2027 Ariya during its visit to Canada. The images were initially only intended for use on Nissan’s social channels.

I had full and broad creative freedom, with one specific request: photograph the Ariya charging or positioned near a charger to reinforce it’s electric identity.

Introduce the Ariya in a real setting

02 | The Challenge

A shrinking window

The vehicle was available from 11:00am until approximately 2:00pm before continuing it’s global press tour. Heavy rain arrived the same moment the Ariya did.

The weather cleared just before noon, but drying the vehicle reduced the useable shooting window drastically. The remaining time called for a focused, adaptable approach.

I shifted the emphasis from detail-focused coverage to wider environmental imagery, working between the waterfront and an apartment driveway.

The aim was to show how the Ariya would look in everyday surroundings, using the setting to support it’s design and presence.

Make the setting part of the story

Nissan selected seven photographs from the shoot for it’s social channels, with most coming from the driveway setting. Once the project went live, Nissan received so much interest from their internal affairs that they decided to license the entirety of the gallery in perpetuity.

The finished work brings together the vehicle’s presence in a real setting with close views of it’s exterior design and cabin
